Dear Residents, Families and Friends of Kirkhaven,

In the last update on November 10th, we reported that one contract employee had tested positive for COVID-19.  The individual was asymptomatic, furloughed for 14 days and has since returned to work after testing negative.  We have now completed the required two cycles of COVID-19 testing for all residents and staff.  All COVID-19 laboratory results received thus far are negative.  Currently, laboratory result processing times are delayed 7 days or more due to increased testing volumes across NY State and the Finger Lakes region.

On October 9, 2020, as part of the Cluster Action Initiative, Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order (EO) 202.68 which established red, orange and yellow zones and imposed restrictions and limitations within those zones.  On November 10, 2020, EO 202.73 amended the nursing home testing requirements to require that nursing homes in red, orange or yellow zones test all personnel twice per week beginning November 16, 2020.  In addition to these testing requirements, visitation is limited in all congregate settings including nursing homes. The recent advisory from the Commissioner clarifies that for nursing homes in red and orange zones, visitation is suspended except for in the following instances: compassionate care (i.e. end of life, hospice situations) medically or clinically necessary (i.e. visitor is essential to the care of the patient as determined by the facility and treating provider), and necessary legal representatives.

At Kirkhaven in-person visitation is suspended until further notice based on orange zone restrictions noted above.  Hospice and End of Life visits will be permitted in accordance with Federal and State regulations.  Please contact your assigned social worker for details.

Zoom and FaceTime visits are available by appointment.  Please call your designated Social Worker, the House Manager or email: to schedule a virtual visit.

We will continue to promptly communicate any presence of COVID-19 at Kirkhaven as well as provide updates on a weekly basis on our website, and via our COVID-19 Information Hotline: 585-271-1772.

In closing, we are pleased to share that Kirkhaven has been free of COVID-19 in our resident population for more than 155 consecutive days.  We remain diligent with cleaning/ disinfecting procedures and all infection prevention measures such as; handwashing and wearing PPE, frequent monitoring of residents as well as screening of staff and essential visitors for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in an effort to minimize the risk to our residents and staff and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Our hearts go out to all those grieving a loss or bearing undue stress as COVID-19 infection rates are on the rise again in the greater community.

We wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy and Safe Thanksgiving.
