Dear Residents, Families and Friends of Kirkhaven,

Through our universal testing of all staff, we received positive COVID-19 results for (1) employee from December 11th.   The employee does not have direct contact with residents and therefore no exposure to residents has occurred. As required, this employee is furloughed for 14 days and will not return to work until a negative COVID-19 result is received.  All resident test results from December 7th are negative.  We have received negative COVID-19 test results for all residents on the 3rd household from December 14th.  The remaining results from December 14th are pending from an out of town laboratory.

The one (1) resident who tested positive for COVID-19 on November 30th remains asymptomatic and has now completed 14 days of quarantine since testing positive, which meets the CDC criteria for COVID-19 recovery.  This resident has returned to the 2nd household of our facility.  Kirkhaven residents are once again free of COVID-19.

The following infection prevention measures remain in place:

  • Weekly COVID-19 testing for ALL Kirkhaven residents will be repeated again on December 21st and 28th.
  • All four households will remain quarantined until further notice. All staff working these households continue to wear personal protective equipment (PPE): gowns, gloves, masks and face-shields when providing care to residents.  Residents are encouraged to limit activities to their room and assigned household, wear face covering as tolerated and socially distance if they must leave their room.
  • In-person visitation remains suspended until further notice. Hospice and End of Life visits will be permitted in accordance with Federal and State regulations.  Please contact your assigned social worker for details.
  • We remain vigilant with the frequency of disinfecting high use areas and have placed alcohol-based hand sanitizer throughout the building for use by residents and staff.

We continue to follow rigorous infection prevention and control procedures. These include handwashing and wearing gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE).  Universal masking and face-shield policies are in place – all employees must wear a surgical mask in all areas of our building and when within 6 feet of another individual.

Zoom and FaceTime visits are available by appointment.  Please call your designated Social Worker, the House Manager or email: to schedule a virtual visit.

Earlier this week we provided residents and responsible parties with the COVID-19 Vaccine Fact Sheet and Consent Form along with vaccine clinic information.  This information and forms are available on our website:  COVID-19 Vaccine Information Page

Our nursing team members are in the process of calling responsible parties to answer questions and to obtain verbal consent.  If you provide verbal consent, you do not need to submit the written consent form.  Once we confirm the number of residents and staff interested in receiving the vaccine, the pharmacy will schedule the vaccine clinics at Kirkhaven.  We anticipate the first of three vaccine clinics to occur by the end of the year or the first week in January.

Questions regarding the vaccine or vaccination process may be directed to our Infection Prevention Professional, Christine Schroeder, RN at 585-461-1991 ext. 3057 or email

Thank you for doing your part to stay safe and for your continued support and understanding as we work through the ongoing challenges of this pandemic.
