Dear Residents, Families and Friends of Kirkhaven,

In our efforts to keep you informed regarding our facility COVID-19 status, this is to notify you we received positive COVID-19 results for two (2) additional employees from December 18th.   The employees are asymptomatic, are furloughed for 14 days and will not return to work until a negative COVID-19 result is received.  One (1) employee is a food service worker who worked on the 2nd household and the other is a housekeeper who has been working in our laundry department and has not had contact with residents.  To date, seven (7) employees have returned to work since testing positive over the last 60 days.

We have also received positive COVID-19 test results for five (5) additional residents, two (2) reside on the 3rd household and three (3) reside on the 2nd household.  Positive results were collected on December 20th and 21st and received late yesterday.  The (5) residents have been relocated to a designated and secure area on the 5th household.  The designated COVID-19 area is separated from other resident rooms by existing fire doors and secured with a keypad entry.  A select team of staff are assigned to this designated area.

The following infection prevention measures remain in place:

  • Rapid COVID-19 testing is being conducted on exposed residents today. All residents will be retested every three (3) to seven (7) days for a fourteen (14) day period.
  • All four households will remain quarantined until further notice. All staff working these households continue to wear personal protective equipment (PPE): gowns, gloves, masks and face-shields when providing care to residents.  Residents are encouraged to limit activities to their room and assigned household, wear face covering as tolerated and socially distance if they must leave their room.
  • In-person visitation including hospice is suspended until further notice. End of Life visits will be permitted in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
  • We remain vigilant with the frequency of disinfecting high use areas and have placed alcohol-based hand sanitizer throughout the building for use by residents and staff.

We continue to follow rigorous infection prevention and control procedures. These include handwashing and wearing gloves and other personal protective equipment (PPE).  Universal masking and face-shield policies are in place – all employees must wear a surgical mask in all areas of our building and when within 6 feet of another individual.  Furthermore, we remain vigilant with the frequency of disinfecting high use areas and have placed alcohol-based hand sanitizer in resident rooms and common areas for use by residents and staff.

We will continue to communicate changes in our facility COVID 19 status as well as any adjustments made to our infection control and visitation policy.  Zoom and FaceTime visits are available by appointment.  Please call your designated Social Worker, the House Manager or email: to schedule a virtual visit.

Residents and staff are monitored and screened for symptoms consistent with COVID-19 frequently in accordance with Federal and State regulations.    Authorized representatives of residents testing positive for COVID-19 will be updated directly by phone upon receipt of positive results, ongoing on a daily basis until recovery and promptly upon a change in the resident’s condition.
