May 29, 2020- Update

Today at Kirkhaven, we celebrate!  A total of 21 residents have fully recovered from the Coronavirus, COVID-19 since the outbreak began in late March.  There are now ZERO positive COVID-19 resident cases at Kirkhaven.  While we are excited to share this news, it is also bittersweet, as we have not forgotten those who have lost their lives to this brutal virus over the last nine weeks.  Our hearts go out to all those grieving a loss or bearing undue stress during these difficult times.

From the beginning of this pandemic crisis, Kirkhaven has without hesitation followed the guidance and directives from federal, state and local agencies and remained committed to the care and safety of our residents and employees.  Regardless of how daunting the regulatory directives have been, together we faced the challenges head on and persevered.

NY State Department of Health is on-site today at Kirkhaven conducting resident testing.  COVID-19 test results for residents and staff are anticipated within 5-7 days.  The delay in results is due to increased testing occurring across NY State.  As we near the end of our second week of employee testing, all 189 employees and contract staff have been tested 1-3 times in compliance with Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order since May 18th. As previously reported, approximately 4% (8 employees) of our employee population have tested positive for COVID-19.  These employees are asymptomatic and are anticipated to return to work after 14 days of quarantine and a negative test result.  We have been successful in maintaining adequate staffing levels in all departments throughout this pandemic and continue to recruit and hire licensed professionals, certified direct care and support staff.  Employment applications are accepted on-line at

Moving forward as we strive to keep residents and their families informed and updated, we are preparing to improve our facility communication plan.  If you have not provided us with an email address and cell phone number or if you believe that we do not have an accurate email address or phone number on file for you, please submit your up-to-date information to in order to receive future periodic informational updates and data reports regarding COVID-19.  You do have the right to opt out of these communications, and if you prefer to do so, please let us know.

Warm Regards,
